From August 19 to 21, the Republic of Namibia co-hosted a three-day peer learning forum that brought together adaptation government decision-makers and civil society organization (CSO) representatives in Windhoek to explore why civil society engagement in national adaptation plan (NAP) processes is essential.
Participants from 11 countries—Belize, Burkina Faso, Comoros, Côte d’Ivoire, Jamaica, Kenya, Madagascar, Namibia (host), Rwanda, Saint Lucia, South Africa—engaged in open and honest discussions to identify approaches for effective engagement of CSOs.
The overall objectives of the PLF were to enable participants to
- develop a common understanding of the importance of civil society engagement in NAP processes;
- share creative and practical approaches for civil society engagement in NAP processes, drawing on real-world examples; and
- commit to concrete next steps to improve civil society engagement—particularly those representing women and other marginalized groups—in NAP processes.
The NAP Global Network provided technical and financial support for the workshop through funding from Global Affairs Canada.
