Our first Targeted Topics Forum (TTF) focused on “High-level Political Support and Sectoral Integration in NAP Processes.”
Bringing together 28 participants from 14 developing countries and six organizations, this TTF had the following goals:
- To develop strategies for achieving high-level political support for the NAP process.
- To gain practical knowledge on how to mainstream climate change adaptation into sectoral planning.
- To identify roles of different actors involved in the NAP process and how they can coordinate their actions to support these processes.

Spectrum of Approaches to Sector Integration of Adaptation Planning
Discussions at this TTF revealed a variety of approaches to integrating adaptation considerations into sector strategies. This spectrum demonstrates how the non-prescriptive NAP process can lead to a common outcome (in this case, integration) through a variety of approaches taken by different countries that are specific to their unique situation.

Sector Driven
Sectors have already taken steps to address adaptation considerations in sectoral planning and policy-making. Initiating integration involves coordination of sectoral initiatives to help define national adaptation priorities.
Hybrid
Adaptation is simultaneously considered at the national level and in sector-specific planning. Inititating integration requires coordination of national and sectoral initiatives to ensure coherence and cohesion in the policy community.
Nationally Driven
A climate change focal agency identifies national adaptation priorities. Initiating integration requires uptake within sector-specific strategies and action plans with coordination by the national climate change focal point.

sNAPshot Policy Briefs on Sector Integration of Adaptation Considerations
Out of the discussions held at this TTF, our sNAPshot policy brief series summarized the lessons that emerged on sector integration and different ways to initiate it in the NAP process.
An Overview Brief (also available in French, Spanish and Portuguese) introduces the topic and country briefs on Jamaica, the Philippines and Grenada provide further detail on approaches individual countries have taken to initiating the sector integration process.
