The NAP Global Network invites representatives of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) to participate in a unique consultation on support provided by the NAP Global Network to advance national adaptation plan (NAP) processes in SIDS. This meeting is set to take place in St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda, on May 27, 2024, on the margins of the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States. The NAP Global Network will be represented by the Head of the Secretariat for the NAP Global Network, Dr. Orville Grey.

In this meeting, the NAP focal points and government representatives of SIDS will assess the Network’s support for their NAP processes. The meeting will also serve as a platform to share SIDS’ insights, experiences, and foster open, frank discussions to enhance and build upon the Network’s technical support and coordination requirements unique to SIDS to accelerate national efforts to put adaptation at the heart of decision-making.

“Small Island Developing States are on the frontlines of climate change. The NAP Global Network remains committed to support SIDS efforts to translate adaptation planning into implementation through concrete actions to help deliver support to the people and places it is needed most,” said Orville Grey.

For nearly a decade, the NAP Global Network has supported over 80 developing countries in advancing their NAP processes to help accelerate climate change adaptation efforts worldwide. Since 2014, the Network has provided technical support to 16 SIDS and engaged representatives from 24 SIDS in the Network’s peer learning and exchange events.

This consultation follows a recent meeting with representatives of LDCs to reflect on NAP Global Network support.

In 2024, the NAP Global Network will mark 10 years of supporting countries to advance NAP processes, with 62% of our support going to LDCs and SIDS. This consultation will provide a launchpad as we build on the last decade and shape our support, in collaboration with our kind funders, for the years ahead to support countries in moving from planning to implementing ambitious adaptation actions through their NAP processes.
