Stocktake of Climate Change Adaptation Interventions in Ethiopia
Development plans, strategies, and programs need to be continually monitored and tracked to translate them into tangible outcomes. In early 2025, Ethiopia was on the verge of revising its national adaptation plan (NAP-ETH) and updating the nationally determined contribution (NDC) in accordance with the terms of the Paris Agreement. Therefore, a stocktake of the implementation of adaptation actions was required to improve understanding of the progress made toward achieving a green economy and building a resilient economy through better adaptation interventions.
This assessment helped the government scrutinize the status of the implementation of adaptation actions set out in the 2021 NDC through the active participation of relevant stakeholders. The stocktake explored the:
- extent to which adaptation strategies were implemented and tracked, and the extent to which adaptation strategies were dynamic enough to capture ever-changing climate change impact pathways
- most challenging factors that deterred the implementation of adaptation strategies at the sector level; and
- extent to which adaptation interventions were inclusive in terms of addressing relevant sectors and gender dimensions.
