Zimbabwe Accelerates Climate Fight…Adaptation Communication Validation On Cards

Speaking in an interview, Climate Change Management Department Director Washington Zhakata said the AdCom reflects on what is transpiring, while at the same time giving a picture of the country’s plans in the fight against climate change. “Zimbabwe, through the NAP Global Network, is in the process of developing its first Adaptation Communication to the UNFCCC. The communication is a summary of what is being done and planned towards adapting to climate change. So tomorrow’s (today) meeting is aimed at validating the communication document,” said Zhakata.

Vietnam submits its National Report on Climate Change Adaptation

Vietnam’s recent efforts to respond to climate change are reflected in the NDC, the National Climate Change Adaptation Plan, medium and long-term socio-economic development plans and programs and strategies to 2030, with a vision to 2045 of ministries, branches and localities.

Liberia: Government Launches Country’s National Adaptation Plan

The Government of Liberia through the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in partnership with the National Adaptation Plan Global Network, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and with funding from the Green Climate Fund, launched, on December 8, 2021, Liberia’s National Adaption Plan (NAP) and Adaptation Communication (AdCom).

Liberia’s National Adaptation Plan is intended to help Liberia tackle the issue of climate change through a sound adaptation program that involves a whole of society approach to achieve the goal, vision and specific objectives.

Capacity Needed to Develop Adaptation Plans: Glasgow Side Events

Countries vary in their ability to develop national adaptation plans (NAPs) under the UNFCCC, given the capacity gap between developed and developing countries. This challenge was the focus of several side events during the Glasgow Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC COP 26), which concluded on 13 November 2021.

An 8 November event on Adaptation: From Planning to Action sought to share lessons learned by countries developing their NAPs. New funding from donor countries to facilitate and build capacity for NAP planning and implementation was also announced.

Minister Colm Brophy announces €3.5 million in funding to support climate adaptation in developing countries

Today’s funding package announced by Minister Brophy is made up of two elements:

  • €1 million to the National Adaptation Plan Global Network to support national-level adaptation in developing countries; and,
  • €2.5 million to the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF), to support adaptation activities in some of the world’s most climate vulnerable countries.
