OUR PROGRAM

The NAP Global Network works with the Ministry of Environment, Energy, Water and Sanitation of Burkina Faso on developing an updated Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Framework for the country’s NAP process. Burkina Faso submitted its first NAP to the UNFCCC in 2015, and this long-term technical assistance aims to develop an updated MEL System for the forthcoming second NAP document, more aligned with the country’s nationally determined contributions (NDC) process. Our support includes the development of a standardized approach for vulnerability assessments at a regional level.

MILESTONES

2021

Adaptation Communication (AdCom): Raised profile of the progress made by Burkina Faso since the launch of its first NAP in 2015, as well as gaps and needs to be tackled in order to advance the adaptation action. The document also informed the upcoming second NAP. The AdCom was developed through short-term assistance from the NAP Global Network's Country Support Hub.
Evaluation of Burkina Faso’s National Climate Change Adaptation Plan (NAP) 2015–2020: Captured the progress made over 5 years of implementing Burkina Faso’s NAP, allowing the country to track the sector-by-sector progress made on the implementation of adaptation activities and inform the next version of their NAP.

Burkina Faso’s NAP process aims to reduce the country’s vulnerability to the impact of climate change by developing adaptation and resilience capabilities. It also facilitates the coherent integration of climate change adaptation into new or existing policies, programs, or activities and in specific development planning processes and strategies in pertinent sectors and at various levels. In addition, the process also intends to manage Burkina Faso's economic and social development more efficiently by implementing planning mechanisms and measures taking account of resilience and adaptation to climate change between now and 2050.
